Knowing how to create a website is a great thing. Knowing how to optimize it for search engines is even better. A website that doesn’t appear first in search results on Google has less chances to be visited more frequently. It seems totally invisible.

Well improved, Search Engine Optimization (SEO) should help you put your website on the first page of Google. At Esokia, we make a point of honor to work on Search Engine Optimization which represents between 20 and 50% of oncoming web traffic. A lot of websites, even important ones, do not follow the standard practices. That’s why, we present to you some of our basic tricks.

1/ Adapt your title to the title tag

Essential for SEO, this tag must describe the page precisely and must not exceed between 60 and 65 numerals. Title tag appears in Google search results and if you want to see your title entirely, the numerals have to be limited. Finally, for a good Search Engine Optimization, the title tag has to contain the main keywords of the page.

2/ Consider specifying an unique meta-description and URL

Meta description also appears in Google search results and gives more information about the page. To guarantee a good SEO, this meta description must not exceed 156 numerals and has to be unique as the title tag and the URL. Once again, the main keyword of the page is essential and must be placed on the beginning of the sentence, if possible.

3/ Don’t forget to define the H1, H2, H3 tag, etc.

What are Hn tags? Hn tags are titles placed between your paragraphs to summarize each section. It is important to classify them according to their importance. H1 title is generally unique on a page and represents the most important title after the main title. The H2 title is the second most important, etc.

4/ Write appropriate and relevant content

Be careful, Google is smart and knows when you’re trying to cheat. It analyses everything, even the content of your website. It’s not enough to put keywords anywhere. These keywords have to be placed on carefully considerate and relevant content that corresponds to your activity. We recommend a minimum of 300 words per page for a good Search Engine Optimization.

5/ Say yes to internal links between pages of your website

We know how backlinks are important, but we forget sometimes the importance of internal networking on your website. Well, Google also analyses it, so it influences your SEO. It has to be logical for Google, but also for your visitors.

6/ Also say yes to backlinks

As we acknowledged the importance of internal links, we mustn’t forget how important backlinks are too. Backlinks are actually links to your website presence on other influential websites. But beware, the excessive sharing of backlinks is penalized by Google! Therefore, it is very important not to exaggerate with sharing of backlinks in order for them to work well. Just like keywords, those backlinks must be inserted into relevant content and must correspond to the website to which they refer.

7/ Pay attention to website map or sitemap

Wondering what a site map is? Also called sitemap.xml, the sitemap lists URLs of your website in addition to other data, such as the latest updates. The presence of the website map facilitates search engine optimization and especially the work that robots do "crawling" your website.
